Recycle old hangers and panty hose into beautiful & unique fairy wings!
Submitted by guide on Tue, 10/20/2009 - 09:09A few months ago I had made a photo tutorial detailing my experience making wings using hangers and hose, but the computer memory containing the data crashed. I still have a few tips and tricks in my memory, though!
Tips & Tricks
- Use the thinnest metal hangers you can. Bending thick hangers is very difficult.
- Use identical hangers of the same size, shape, thickness, and color. Otherwise, it will be difficult to give the wings a consistent look.
- Glue glitter works great to add embellishments. You can also use acrylic paint to add decorations - or even change the color of your wings entirely!
- If you use acrylic paint, remember that hose are very porous - the paint will probably seep through to the other side of your wings. So make sure you paint your wings on something that can get messy (newspaper, towels, etc) and keep this in mind while designing.
- If you use acrylic paint, the wings will need an hour or so to dry. If both sides of the wings are wet, you will need to hang them up.
- This craft, if done correctly, is very easy to finish.
- The craft takes a long time to complete, though, so practice patience.
Free autumn fairy printable card
Submitted by guide on Sat, 10/17/2009 - 19:22Send your loved one a friendly fall greeting and spread the autumn cheer! Click on the image to go to its high resolution version. Sized at 8.5 x 11 inches, the image is ready to print directly from your browser, fits perfectly on regular printing paper (we recommend card stock), and doesn't require you to adjust your printer. The inside is blank for writing. Once printed, fold it in half for a lovely 5.5 x 8.5" card!

We suggest writing only on the right inner page so your recipient can cut off the front half of the card and re-use it as a postcard. You also have plenty of room to write addresses on the blank backside of the card, so if you gently tape the card closed, you don't even need to waste an envelope!

Right click here and select "Save Link As" to download a .zip file containing all of the fonts (a small file at 615kb).

Autumn Fairy Jar

You can use polymer clay to turn a plain jar into a great decoration. In this tutorial I make a pumpkin jar, but you can use the clay to make a variety of styles for the lid and glass, if you use your imagination. Experiment with the clay that wraps around the jar and the clay that goes on the lid. Note: Although it's tempting, don't capture any fairies in your jar! |
Paper Mache Fairy Frame

Paper mache frames are great for non-traditional size photographs and artwork because you can completely customize the frame's length and width. You also determine the frame's color. Paper mache frames help reduce waste by using recycled cardboard and paper. Frame a picture of your favorite fairy to attract her to your house! Fairies always love environmentally friendly projects. Feel free to print images from our species list.
