George Lucas working on a Fairy musical

Star Wars director George Lucas is developing a computer-animated musical featuring fairies. The project is in pre-production at Lucas' Skywalker Ranch production facility in Marin County, California. David Berenbaum of The Spiderwick Chronicles crafted the script, with Kevin Munroe of TMNT directing. Little else is known about the top-secret upcoming film.

Will Twilight usher in a fairy era?

The long awaited new Twilight movie came out today! Although I never really got into the series myself, some critics keep citing its rise as evidence of the growing popularity of the fantasy genre. When the vampire craze dies down, they predict, fairies will sweep Hollywood to become the next big thing (think of how the Pirates of the Caribbean pirate fan scene opened the way for Twilight's vampire). They point to an increasing number of popular fairy books as evidence, including Wings, fittingly a kind of fairy version of Twilight, which will soon become a major Hollywood vehicle starring Miley Cyrus. Are you going to see Twilight, and do you agree with predictions of fairy fame? In addition, how do you feel about the increasing commercialization of fairies?

ELF School Report: "[Attendees] awakened old memories and connections to the other realms!" Plus, fairies caught on video!

John Springer and other friends of the fae gathered together last weekend to celebrate nature and achieve enlightenment. John sent me this wonderful note about the event below.

Jasmine Becket-Griffith's fairy art to appear in horror movie Jennifer's Body

Jasmine Becket-Griffith's popular big-eyed Strangeling fairies fluttered their way into upcoming major motion picture Jennifer's Body.

"I signed a contract awhile back to allow the use of my artwork in an upcoming movie - Jennifer's Body! It's a horror/comedy movie starring Megan Fox & Amanda Seyfried," Becket-Griffith wrote in her newsletter today. "I just saw the trailer for it up at Youtube and apparently Megan Fox's character is a fan, hehe - because you can see she has my artwork in her locker! My artwork will no doubt appear in other parts of the film (out next month) so if you go see Jennifer's Body - keep an eye out for Strangelings!"

Miley Cyrus to play half-fairy in Disney's 'Wings'

Miley Cyrus will star as half-fairy Laurel in Disney's adaptation of Aprilynne Pike's popular novel Wings. Temple Hill, the company that produced the Twilight film, will tackle the movie. A tad unsurprisingly, then, Wings involves fantastical high school characters struggling with teenage love. Will Laurel choose loyal human friend David or exotic fairy Tamani? Regardless, the movie should offer some great fairy escapist fun, and I'm excited to see it roll out.
