About the Founding

Cortney wears Fairy Line couture.
Cortney Cameron began building websites at age 12, designing a site for local newspaper The Word as her first big project (see archive).
One day cool summer night, driving with the windows down in a car without air conditioning, she noticed hundreds of fireflies dancing in a grassy field. Their beauty inspired her to paint an image of the Firefly Fairy in honor of her late father.

Young Cortney designs a website.
As a youngster, she captured fireflies in jars and left them out overnight. The next morning, she would find quarters instead of fireflies. Her father chalked up the switch to the Firefly Fairy.
After painting the Firefly Fairy, she kept seeing fairies everywhere. She painted the Dandelion Fairy next. While watching the new Journey to the Center of the Earth at a drive-in, a giant dandelion seed flew across the screen. Cortney then realized that the seed's feathers were actually the hairs of a Dandelion Fairy.

When her collection continued to grow, she decided to make an online archive of the various fairy species. In November 2008, she started FairyGuide.com. As the site increased in popularity, she expanded the site to include useful fairy services like free e-mail, hoping to magic the internet experience a little more magical for fairy lovers.
This idea -- adding a touch of fantasy to everyday life -- continues to drive the growth of the site.
Cortney currently lives in Durham, where she attends Duke University as a full-time student, and lives with her husband Steven, their dog, and their cat.
